This distinctive program includes Andy Akiho’s ground-breaking masterpiece “21,” a brilliant exploration of 21st-century rhythmic complexity, enigmatic melodic lines, and a boundary-defying utilization of percussive elements, challenging conventional expectations of rhythm and structure, presenting a potent mix of modernity and emotion that promises to captivate. Accompanying this work are original and traditional compositions along with Olivier Messiaen’s transcendent “Louange à l’Éternité de Jésus,” a movement from the renowned “Quatuor pour la fin du temps” with its ethereal, slow-moving cello line underpinned by a percussive accompaniment that unfolds like a celestial, infinite echo.
