Mythos Ragnarok
July 5 @ 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm
Phil McIntyre Live, in association with Canadian promoters SMW Entertainment, is excited to announce the North American debut of Mythos: Ragnarök. This one-of-a-kind theatre show will tour through Atlantic Canada, visiting five cities across Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Prince Edward Island in July 2024.
Unique in the world, Mythos: Ragnarök skillfully weaves ancient myths and legends into an original story. It is the only theatre experience to feature a cast composed of classically-trained professional wrestlers, creating some of the most intense and thrilling fight scenes ever to grace the stage. The story follows Odin (Ed Gamester) and Loki (Michael Reese) as they struggle to overcome insurmountable odds—including primaeval giants, rival gods and goddesses, and each other’s conflicting ambitions—in a darkly comic adaptation of the well-known Norse myths. This blend of action, swordplay, and captivating storytelling offers a distinct theatrical experience.
Named a “Must-See Show” at the infamous Edinburgh Fringe, Mythos: Ragnarök has played to sold-out audiences across the United Kingdom and Australia, earning accolades such as a position on the Telegraph’s List of Best Theatre Shows and Playbill’s Picks of Fringe 2023. At the show’s helm, creator, director, and lead actor Ed Gamester reflects, “I’ve been absolutely blown away by the response to our show. I knew this was a form of theatre that needed to be created and shared, but I didn’t expect people to fall in love with it like they have. Canadian audiences are going to really love the show, and most of all, we’re excited for audiences to have the chance to reconnect with Maddison.”
Gamester is referring to Maddison Miles, the Halifax native and breakout professional wrestling star, who, after moving to England in October 2019, joined the cast of Mythos: Ragnarök in December 2021, originating the role of Freyja—a role she has performed in all but six of the play’s one hundred and twenty-five performances.
Miles, twice ranked as one of the world’s top hundred female wrestlers, recalls her chance casting at the inception of Mythos: Ragnarök. “My partner, Charlie, who wrestles as Charlie Winston, is six-foot-nine, so Ed called looking for a literal giant to be part of the show. It was only when we got talking that he said he thought he might have this part for me. The rest was history.”
Speaking about bringing Mythos to Atlantic Canada, Miles says it was never an “if” but a “when.” “Since I started posting pictures of performances online, people have been saying they wanted to see this. Now, I get to bring it home and share it with my community. That means a lot to me.”
