Sensory-Accessible Concerts: Cellist Rachel Desoer “Her Cello”
January 5, 2025 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Step in from the chill of winter and immerse yourself in the warmth of “Her Cello,” a moving program celebrating women-identifying composers and their extraordinary contributions to chamber music. Part of our Sensory-Accessible Concerts series, this performance features Symphony Nova Scotia’s Principal Cellist Rachel Desoer and host-pianist Jennifer King. Experience the serene charm of Maria-Theresa von Paradis’ “Sicilienne,” the lively energy of Sally Beamish’s “The Wise Maid” for solo cello, and the lyrical beauty of Nadia Boulanger’s “Trois Pièces, No. 2” paired with the rhythmic vitality of her “Trois Pièces, No. 3.” Henrietta Bosmans’ spirited “En Espagne” adds vibrant Spanish flair, Jennifer Higdon’s reflective “The Space Within” invites introspection, and Clara Wieck-Schumann’s “Piano Concerto, Op. 7, II. Romanze” brings a stately and graceful touch. This program invites you to enjoy the rich and expressive sounds of cello and piano music in a safe and accessible setting, perfect for the early days of winter. Designed with sensory-friendly considerations, this concert series offers a welcoming and inclusive space for all with thoughtful sensory-friendly adaptations that create a comfortable and relaxing atmosphere. Co-presented with the Halifax Central Library.
