Sensory-Accessible Concerts: Maritime Brass Quintet
December 1 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm
This Sensory-Accessible Concerts season-opening performance brings together Symphony Nova Scotia violist Carolyn Farnand and our series host and pianist Jennifer King for a beautifully dynamic and thoughtful program, designed with sensory-friendly considerations in mind. Alexander Glazunov’s “Elegy” offers moments of calm introspection, while selections from Johann Sebastian Bach’s “Cello Suite No. 1,” including the Courante and Sarabande, provide rhythmic consistency and soothing Baroque elegance, ideal for sensory regulation. Jessie Montgomery’s “Peace for Viola and Piano” introduces gentle contemporary textures that evoke a sense of calm. Florence Price’s “Seven Decorative Pieces” range from the playful energy of “Hard Problems” and “Tittle Tattle” to the gentle sways of “Hilda’s Waltz” and the reflective “Pensive Mood,” allowing listeners to experience a variety of moods. Amy Beach’s “Romance” closes the program with warm, lyrical lines that invite relaxation. Co-presented with the Halifax Central Library, this free concert provides a safe and welcoming space for everyone to enjoy chamber music.
