SHANNEYGANOCK – OVER 25 YEARS AND STILL ALIVE

It was a bar owner’s scheduling mistake that was instrumental in creating one of the province’sbiggest bands. When Ralph O’Brien double-booked then-solo performers Chris Andrews and Mark Hiscockat Erin’s Pub one fall evening in 1994, to rectify the situation, he suggested the two performtogether. It turned out to be the right decision, as the veteran traditional musician helped bringtogether the duo that would become the nucleus of Shanneyganock.

In 2021, the band that Chris Andrews and Mark Hiscock started when they were young lads celebrated their “25th Anniversary”. A silver anniversary is rare in a business where most bands burn out fromtouring, fall apart, or simply get tired of the rock and roll life. Not these guys. After more than two decades of bringing music from Newfoundland and Labrador to theworld, Andrews and Hiscock are still passionate about Shanneyganock— and still love the sound of a roaring crowd. Are there any Newfoundlanders here tonight?!
