Black Christmas (1974) 🎄📞
directed: Bob Clark
starring: John Saxon, Olivia Hussey, Margo Kidder
“The college town of Bedford is receiving an unwanted guest this Christmas. As the residents of sorority house Pi Kappa Sigma prepare for the festive season, a stranger begins to stalk the house…”
Bob Clark’s creepily atmospheric, Toronto-shot thrill-fest may be Canada’s most influential contribution to the horror genre. Its’ inventive camerawork, ruthlessly clever scares, and shocking violence crystallizing the tropes that would define the “slasher” cycle of the 1970’s, 1980s and beyond.
He is also responsible for another Christmas classic film that is a must-watch every year, 1983’s A CHRISTMAS STORY. “You’ll shoot your eye out!” 🎄
Not only is, “Black Christmas” genuinely scary, director Bob Clark introduced new elements and motifs to horror cinema – helping to hatch the slasher film sub-genre.
“There’s no doubting that Black Christmas had all the advantages of being first of its kind. The film stands as the mother of the modern slasher. It was able to make its own rules, and subsequently created a template for the films that came after.”
– Thrillist
“Black Christmas is a quintessentially Canadian horror masterpiece.”
