March Break has arrived in HRM! Planning how you’re going to fill that time doesn’t need to be stressful.

Whether you’re seeking adventure-filled activities, budget-friendly family activities, or cultural experiences, our comprehensive list of March Break events covers everything you need to know to make the most of this “time off.”

We’ve compiled this resource to help you plan an unforgettable March break vacation that fits your family’s style and budget. Here are a few event and activity recommendations, along with insider tips to transform your March break into a fantastic set of memories.

Tip #1: Take a look at the “HRMEvents Calendar.”

Tip #2: The Ferry is FREE

Already a pretty great adventure on its own, the Halifax Ferry between Downtown Halifax and Downtown Dartmouth is offering FREE rides between 11 am and 2 pm. A fantastic way to get to and from some of our favourite March Break events this week.

Tip #3: The Libraries have something planned for everyone

The Halifax libraries have PACKED their schedule with great March Break activities. Outside of your standard “books,” “computers,” and “hanging out,” the library has a lineup of special events planned across the municipality’s libraries and community hubs.

Here are a few events that stood out to us:

Tip #4: The Museums have hours of stuff to explore and do

Mesumes from throughout HRM have fantastic exhibits and activities lined up for March Break. Here are the schedules for a few of our favourites:

Always a favourite; this week the Discovery Centre has fun with Lego, Tides, Space and, of course, LOTS of other fun science.

One of our new favourites, the Beaty Centre for Marine Biodiversity, can be found at Dalhousie University and offers the full “big city aquarium” experience that kids can’t get enough of.

They have Dinosaurs. There is a lot going on at the Natural History Museum this month; there will be plenty of fantastic and memorable exhibits and activities. Will your kids only remember the Dinosaurs? I guess you’ll just need to go and find out!

So much sea stuff! There’s something special happening every day at the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic, including a “Mellow Monday” which reduces some of the noise and interaction of a normal museum day.

Free admission, lots of activities, important and interactive history, and it’s right down on the Halifax boardwalk. Sounds like a pretty great day out.

Even if you’ve never been to the Atlantic Canada Aviation Museum, you likely know where it is (it’s “the one near the airport with the plane outside”). March Break is a great time to step inside (admission is by donation), enjoy the really cool exhibits, and let the kids play around in a fake cockpit for a while.

Cars, Mocktails, Food, an Arcade, and a whole lot more. It seems doubtful that the kids will call this one “boring.”

The Citadel is open, and it has a special round of Family/group tours available. A fantastic and interactive way to take a look at this really neat historic site in the centre of Halifax.

Tip #5: Enjoy the Emera Oval

Honestly, this should be higher on the list…our Newsletter crowd LOVES the Emera Oval. There will be FREE skates all week. We think you should definitely check them out.

Tip #6: Laser Tag for the whole Family

This is one of those “fun for all skill levels” kinda activities.

Will there be one person in your group who is way too good at this and way too serious? ..yes, probably. But you’ll have a really great time anyway, and that person will get to go home feeling like a champion.

Tip #7: Enjoy a Farm Adventure

Farms, not just for summer anymore.

Hatfield Farm has a special “March Break Family Roundup” planned for this week, and depending on how you’re reading that event title, it’s as much or more fun than you think it is! This is truly a “something for everyone” kind of experience with wagon rides, games and activities, time outdoors, animals, food and sitting!!

The Ross Farm Museum will be open all week for your March Break needs. This Nova Scotia Museum (hopefully you now see why we didn’t include it above) is a living, working farm that depicts over 150 years of agricultural history. If that doesn’t sound exciting to you, just think about how cute all those Hallmark movies are…yeah, exactly, we’ll meet you at the car.

Tip #8: Get out in the community and explore!!!

We appriciate you taking the time to look at a few great March Break suggestions with us; HRMEvents tries to serve as a fantastic resource for any and all activities in the Municipality and beyond: we don’t know everything though (maybe if we used some sort of Ai bot or sucked up all kinds of public and private data…..but, not today!!!). It’s very possible something great is missing from this list (and we’d love to know about it 😎); so why not get out in the community and see what’s going on. Go for a walk, go for a drive, and you’re bound to stumble upon some sort of park, or party or even just a cool shop or restaurant you didn’t know about!! The spontaneous fun is the fun we’ll remember many March Breaks into the future.
